ActiveCompile™ works in conjunction with HyperMake™ by communicating interactively with the C++ Builder® IDE to determine exactly what changes are being made to the project. ActiveCompile™ then informs HyperMake™ about any dependant files that need to be compiled as the developer changes the project. HyperMake™ then automatically recompiles these files whilst the developer continues to work.

An example of this is if a developer amends a header file that is used by several source files. If the developer adds an extra property or field to a class that is to be used in a corresponding source file then the developer can make the change the header file and then move to the C++ source file to implement the code changes. Whilst the developer is busy doing this ActiveCompile™ will identify the other files related to the header file that need recompiling and signal HyperMake™ to compile them.

ActiveCompile™ also provides other features, assisting the developer by providing an advanced interactive messaging system between each compiler and C++ Builder® IDE. When  HyperMake™ has compiled a file, ActiveCompile™ will instantly forward the results to the IDE. The C++ Builder® IDE has an additional BuilderBooster™ Toolbar at the top of each source file providing the developer with a summary of the compile. If there were any warnings or errors from the compile then ActiveCompile™ will display these in a drop down tree view, allowing the developer to select each message in turn and review the code.

ActiveCompile™ goes one step further by allowing messages to be grouped by file, and to be colour coded and recalled at any time. ActiveCompile™ will even allow the developer to call up the status of a compilation that was done several days ago to review any messages. The build result can also be archived as part of the development release system so that all the messages pertaining to a particular release can be reviewed later if problems arise.
